update: 9:30pm Saturday
Rusty the Bunnyman is home for now. Current status and plan:
- lasix every 8 hours for 3 days then every 12 hours.
- We have an appointment on Wednesday with cardiologist.
He is very lethargic right now. We have called the vet twice trying to figure out what is the new normal and what means something is wrong.
My gut is telling me we will be saying goodbye way too soon. So the rest of our plan, love him now and always 💕
Hello precious Tripawd family.
Please keep our little fur baby in your prayers. We brought him to ER last night with severe breathing issues. Stayed at least overnight. Not sure if the cancer spread or if something else is wrong, like cardio. (It has been over 2 years since his surgery to remove the cancer in his leg.) Initial chest X-ray showed symptoms of both. The case is being turned over to Dr Scott this morning.
He is in good hands as we figure this out but it is not looking good. I truly think my borrowed time is coming to an end.
Not being allowed into the building due to Covoid-19 was surreal.. I understand it. I hate it. I couldn’t be with my baby to let him know it will somehow becomes alright and that tore me in two.
Anyway, please pray for him that he is comfortable and for us to be the best hoomins possible for him, whatever that will mean.
Update as of Apr 3-12:30pm
Dr. Scott has called. The cancer has spread to Rusty’s lungs. Not sure if there is also a heart issue. Rusty is improving overall. He is in an oxygen bed, receiving a diuretic to help his lungs. Respiratory rates improving and he is resting. After giving the techs a hard time this morning and fighting back (which while the techs didn’t appreciate, both doctors were pleased because it meant he wasn’t giving up), Rusty accepted head scritches from the doctor.
Dr. Scott is hoping we can get him strong enough to enjoy some time at home again, under minimal meds. He is very good about being honest with us and level setting our expectations. We expect him to be there for at least another 24-48 hours.

Ohhhh noooo! You guys I’m so sorry. I wish you had better news and I’m keeping paws crossed that he can come home asap. I can’t imagine coping with a vet emergency right now. Mr Bunnyman is a Warrior, a strong adorable Warrior! We all love hom dearly❤
He is where he needs to be right now to get the best supportive care. And if he feels kinda’ yucky, he probably doesn’t mind being there and just wants to snooze anayway.
I know some Vets are being “creative” and as “lenient” as they can be when critters are sick in the hospital. Maybe they will bring him outside so you can sit with him for awhile. You can give him some snuggles and some yummy trears. Or maybe you can sit with him for awhile in your car where you can give him some lovin’ They should DEFINATELY be able to find ways, especially IF….big IF he’s in a hospice situation, and we all certainly hope not! So check into that, okay?
Update when you can. And PLEASE know we are holding Mr Bunnyman in our thoughts and prayers…..and his beloved hoomans too!❤

Oh no!! I cannot believe this…. saying prayers and prayers for our Bunnyman to turn a corner and be able to go home. He has been doing so well!!!! I know you must be BESIDE yourselves not being able to be there with him.

So as of your Saturday night update Mr Rusty Bunnyman is home and I know he’s glad. I know uou arr too.
I don’t have specific insight into his lethargy other than to say that it would make sense consider everything he’s been through these past couple of days.
Being home with you has special healing powers veyond what medicine can provide. And at least being tired isn’t painful. Hope you’ll see some improvement with the lasix and with your loving and spoiling.❤

I know Rusty is very happy to be home, as you are to be able to snuggle him and keep him comfortable.
He may be just totally exhausted from his stay at the hospital, medications, exams.
I hope you were able to all get some rest and cuddle.
Keeping you in our thoughts, hoping a better day for today and comfort with the meds. With the lasix he will probably need to pee a lot and may drink more too. If he has an accident that’s the lasix working to keep his chest clear.
