How is our little boy doing? I really don’t know.
Rusty is resting as I type.
Positives:
-
- I have been able to give him the transdermal meds so that is positive.
- He is eating a tiny bit of wet food.
- He has used the litter box for piddling but no poop.
- His breathing rate is acceptable while not great.
- He is aware of his surroundings.
- He has started to “steal” the warm spots on the couches or bed when we get up.
Still no purr and sort of a whine instead.
We cancelled the cardio appointment because he couldn’t handle the ride or the sedation. He probably wouldn’t have come out of it.
So right now we are just watching. Not knowing what we will see. Is he really rallying to survive or is it the rally before the end?
We are trying to give him room to sleep where his little body can either heal or decide it is enough.
So I guess our update is there really is no update… Just continued prayers for the best outcome for our Bunnyman.

If I recall. Dr Scott said he had lung mets as well as probable cardio issues, is that right? Dr Scott’s goal, after his hospital stay, was to get him stable enough to avert an imminent crises and get him home. Os that right? Obviously there is ALWAYS a hope that a full healing can take place.
Not doing the Cardio appointment IS in Rusty’s best interest. You already are treating any fluid that may be a result of a heart issue, so that would have been the outcome anyway. You always have put Mr Rusty The Bunnyman first.
Guess I’m just trying to say continue to take it day by day…which I know you are. You wanted to get him home with additional time to love and spoil. In a bizarre way, this is a sacred time as you get to give him care and love at a depth that can only come shining through during this part of the journey
I love that he steals your warm spot. Smart boy! Maybe you could put a warm towel out of the dryer under him, or maybe a heating pad on low for the times he isn’t stealing your warm spots.

Yes. There are definitely things going on in his lungs now. We wanted him home to live out his life the best way possible. That was Dr. Scott wanted as well.
None of us expected what happened over the weekend with him being so out of it. We got through that though. And now we just love him, sneak medicine into his ears, and try to keep him as comfortable as possible. If he stops improving then we will decide.
Great idea about the warm spots. I have to see if I have a heating pad I can put on my bed.
As hard as this is, I do hope you find comfort in a couple of things,
And the thing that stands out update after update is your commitment to do what is vest for Mr Rusty the Bunnyman❤ Actually, that commitment has stood out consistently from your first post a couple of years ago.
Additionally, you certainly have left no stone unturned, all the while, knowing your boy inside out. Knowing what you are willing to “put him through” based on who he is. Knowing where to draw the line kn the sand. Although……shhhh……. truth be told, most of us inch that line forward a little bit every now and then when we see the tiniest bit improvement. 😉Tiny improvements are important at this part of the journey.

compared to where he was this past week end! You are soooo tuned into him.
AND the gel goes in his ears??? Now that’s unique. Rusty is still teaching all of is something new!

I am so glad that he is hanging in there and more comfortable. You have always done a great job taking care of this special boy, and I smiled when I read he was stealing your warm spots.
I know I am late, yesterday was a little crazy getting back to work. I totally agree that you would be doing exactly what you are doing right now and no need to add more stress to the Bunnyman or yourselves.
Baby steps… or maybe Bunny steps, hugs to you guys and an extra gentle scritch to Rusty.

Yes, those transdermal meds are amazing! We love them too. Purrkins told us about them a few years ago. How did we ever live without them?!
Rusty’s situation is such a tough thing for us humans, to wait and see and to be comfortable with what “is.” My heart goes out to you guys during this tough time. We are giving LOTS of extra lovin’ to Wyatt Ray in your honor. Keep us posted. xoxo
